On November 30, 2025, upholding Tsinghua University’s long-standing tradition of “No sports, no Tsinghua”, the AGTHUM formed an enthusiastic eight-member team to participate in the inaugural “Liuhua Cup” Pickleball Team Tournament. The event was hosted by the Liuhua Association and co-organized by the Zhejiang University Malaysia Alumni Association.
Although the Tsinghua team narrowly missed advancing to the semifinals after a series of intense round-robin matches, their fighting spirit, teamwork, and perseverance earned the respect of their opponents and applause from the crowd.
Tsinghua Athletes Show Their Strength on Court
This year’s Tsinghua team comprised eight alumni:
Sim He Yi, Chong Zi Xuan, Laxus Lim, Chan Kah Chun, Chook Wai Sum, Evon Ng, Lee Qi, and Chang Jia Yin.
On match day, the team arrived with high morale. During the morning’s group round-robin matches, they faced strong opponents from various Liuhua alumni organizations. The tournament adopted a rally point scoring system with single games to 15 points and no deuce, a fast-paced format that tested both physical endurance and mental resilience.
Despite the pressure, the Tsinghua players worked seamlessly together. Every powerful smash and each gritty defensive save reflected the Tsinghua sportsmanship of never giving up.

Nine Teams, A Passionate Competition
A total of nine teams participated in this inaugural “Liuhua Cup,” including Zhejiang University, Jinan University, Huaqiao University, and other alumni associations.
The opening ceremony was graced by distinguished guests:
Zheng Xuefang, Minister Counsellor, Embassy of China in Malaysia
Lee Chean Chung, Member of Parliament
Lim Kok Yan, President of the Association of Graduates from Universities and Colleges of China
Jenn Yang, President of the Zhejiang University Malaysia Alumni Association
Between matches, Tsinghua alumni mingled with fellow alumni from other universities, exchanging experiences and celebrating their shared connections to China. Laughter and camaraderie filled the venue both on and off the court.

Enjoying the Journey, Friendship Above All
Although the Tsinghua team did not advance to the top four, the players shared a common sentiment after the tournament:
“Winning is important, but what matters more is the journey we experienced together.”
The tournament provided not only physical exercise but also a meaningful opportunity to strengthen the unity and cohesion of the alumni community. The Beijing Tsinghua University Malaysia Alumni Association will continue to promote the Tsinghua sports spirit and looks forward to returning stronger in next year’s competition!
