Ouyang Yujing, Chinese Ambassador to Malaysia; YB Tan Kok Wai, Member of Parliament for Cheras; and Lim Kok Yan, President of the Liuhua, along with representatives from various political and educational circles. They delivered speeches to commemorate this important milestone.

Lim Kok Yan: From Humble Beginnings to a Strong Alumni Network

President Lim Kok Yan reflected on the 20-year journey of the association, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to its core mission, "uniting alumni, fostering Malaysia–China exchanges, and serving society."

He highlighted the steady growth in the number of Malaysian students pursuing higher education in China, spanning disciplines such as arts, sciences, medicine, and engineering. Alumni are now active in various industries, playing a vital role in strengthening bilateral collaboration.

Lim also pointed out that in recent years, the association has supported various academic and research initiatives, including Xiamen University Malaysia, the Huaqiao University Southeast Asia Research Center, and joint research laboratories. Looking ahead, he pledged to further strengthen the organization, expand its network, and elevate Malaysia–China cultural exchanges to new heights.

Ambassador Ouyang Yujing: "Returned Scholars Are Witnesses and Bridges of Friendship"

Chinese Ambassador Ouyang Yujing emphasized that Malaysian alumni who studied in China are not only valuable contributors to national development but also witnesses and bridges of China–Malaysia friendship.

He noted that bilateral relations are currently at their “best historical moment,” marked by strong political trust, growing economic cooperation, and deepening cultural ties.

Ambassador Ouyang shared three hopes for the association:

  • Be storytellers of friendship, share and promote the Malaysia–China story.

  • Be promoters of cooperation, actively engage in fields like digital economy, green development, and innovation.

  • Be leaders of youth exchanges, encourage more Malaysian students to study in China and foster deeper cultural understanding.

He concluded that the 20th anniversary marks not an end, but a new beginning for the association’s expanding role.

Tan Kok Wai: Staying True to the Mission and Deepening Exchanges

YB Tan Kok Wai, Member of Parliament for Cheras, praised the association for its two-decade commitment to building alumni connections and serving as a crucial bridge for educational and cultural exchanges between Malaysia and China.

He stressed that as the Belt and Road Initiative continues to progress, education and cultural cooperation have become an important pillar of bilateral relations. He expressed confidence that the association will continue to nurture globally minded talent and strengthen Malaysia–China collaboration.

He also reminded that being a “returned scholar” is not just an identity but a responsibility, to contribute meaningfully to both society and professional fields.

A Night of Reflection and Celebration

During the evening, attendees revisited the 20-year history of the association, shared future visions, and participated in a cake-cutting ceremony symbolizing unity and new beginnings. The atmosphere was warm and lively, with alumni and guests exchanging experiences, building connections, and exploring future collaborations.
